In Greek mythology, it is Gaia, the mother nature goddess, guardian of the earth and matter, which resonated with the virtues of agates. The Celts, for their part, married this mineral to their goddess Ceridwen, associated with both death and fertility. The stone was also a companion of Aurora, the Roman goddess of day and light.
