Spiny Oyster Shell (Spondylus); The Pueblo Indians have used this shell for hundreds of years. They obtained them from the coastal Indians with whom they traded. It is fished at depths of 300 feet. Pre-Columbian civilizations of South America, such as the Incas and the peoples of the Andean region, the Spondylus was considered a symbol of power and divinity.
